Diversity Statement

  • We regard diversity at CILAS as a central organizing principle of our academic community.
  • We invite individuals from underrepresented populations, such as those from African, Asian and Pacific Islander, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and Native American descent, to apply to our program. It is particularly important to attract and encourage a diverse applicant pool in order to achieve our overall goals. These goals include integrating teaching, research, and policy analysis in order to encourage students to develop interdisciplinary perspectives and to work actively with faculty on research projects and conferences.
  • We make increasing the diversity of the applicant pool a major goal in our advertising and recruitment efforts.
  • We recognize that biases based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, and political beliefs are prevalent in society. We strive to responsibly address these differences among the faculty, staff, students, and community by promoting tolerance and offering approaches that can resolve conflicts.
  • We respect and maintain confidentiality with respect to the identities of our students, staff, and faculty.
