Project title: Central Bank of Brazil and Chile: Comparative
Analysis 1973-2005
Current Research Project
This study consists of a thorough comparative analysis of the Central
Banks of Brazil and Chile during the period 1973 to 2005, in particular
these two banks´ processes of reform and liberalization of
their countries´ financial markets.
The specific objectives are to analyze and compare regulation structures
in financial markets in both countries and analyze the dynamics
of the adoption of patterns and rules as a dependency path after
financial crises. Also, this work will analyze the trade-off of
bureaucratic power within political regime change dynamics.
This thesis will act as an empirical case study to test the underlying
hypotheses about relational power sources in financial markets.
Relational power is analyzed as a function of both variables: internationalization
and independence of central banks, and judicial risk related to
property rights and external alliances.
