Area of Expertise: Dr. Breilh has extensive knowledge
of Social Medicine; Health Epistemology; Critical Epidemiology;
ethnic and gender related health issues. He is the Executive Director
and founder of CEAS (Health Research and Advisory Center) and Director
of the National Agrarian Research System of Ecuador.

Current Research Project: Breilh´s research work
comprises two fields and institutional settings: agrarian problems
related to health and rural development both national (Ecuador)
and regional (ecosystem and human health impacts of agro-industrial
cut flower production); as part of them, he has worked on methodological
innovations and has designed new research instruments for social
class stratification; the "Epistres" estressors scale; the Pentox
participatory toxicity assessment system; and the HealthFlower Clinical
and Prevention Management Program.
Project Title: a) Impacts of Cut Flower Production
in the Granobles Basin; b) Human health impact in agro-industrial
settings.
Academic Background: Dr. Breilh obtained his Md
degree from the Central University of Ecuador; his Masters in Social
Medicine degree from the Autonomous Metropolitan University of Xochimilco-México;
his specialty in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University
of London; and his PhD in Epidemiology from the Federal University
of Bahía. He received the Honorary Professor official recognition
from the Universities of San Marcos (Lima) and San Andrés
(Bolivia); he has worked as postgraduate visiting professor or lectured
in the most important universities of Latin America, in the Universities
of Michigan (Ann Arbor) , and California; and in universities of
Spain and Portugal.
Chair Ecuadorian Academy of Medicine.
Cofounder of the Latin American Association of Social Medicine (ALAMES).
