Current Research Project: The aim of this thesis is to explore
the emergency of cultural subjects and fields in which the tension between politics
and culture is objectified as social political conflict. The case is studied using
as main resource the Chilean political system between 1994 and 2003, through a
qualitative research of the press and the study of specific conflicts. The specific
goal is to analyse the transformations of the political system and their capacity to
include new social and cultural dimensions.

Academic Background: Andres is currently a PhD candidate in Sociology at
the University of the Basque Sociology. He is a researcher for Collective Identity Research
Centre (CEIC0) at the University of the Basque Country and also teaches in the Department
of Anthropology (University of Chile). He has been chercheur visitant at the Institut Des
Hautes Études De L'Amérique Latine IHEAL at Sorbonne Nouvelle University-PARIS III
(Paris 2004).
