- A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
- A grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the
final two years of undergraduate study and any post baccalaureate
study
- A combined score above the 50% percentile on the verbal, quantitative and
analytical sections of the Graduate Record Examination
- A statement of purpose discussing the applicant's background and
interest in Latin American Studies
- If applying to a concentration, applicant must tailor their statement of purpose to that particular concentration. Total statement of purpose should be no longer than 800 words.
- Three letters of recommendation via the online system on gradapp
- ONE copy of official transcripts from all universities attended
- Official TOEFL scores from international applicants whose native
language is not English
- Writing sample of 20 pages or less
- Please do not include any bound materials or folders with
supplemental materials.

- The UCSD internal code for the Latin American Studies MA program
is "LA76;"
- When taking the GREs please mark "Area Studies- 2201" for UCSD's
Latin American Studies MA program
- If you are applying to more than one program at UCSD, you may pay
only one application fee but you must apply to each unit to which application is being submitted.
